Keller Williams RED day May 21 2015
By Ken Baumel
Last week, over 20 Keller Williams’ real-estate company employees from their Tri-state area offices celebrated RED Day by taking a day off to provide Country Ark Farm in Dingman Township a facelift.
RED Day is an acronym for Renew, Energize, and Donate. For the past eight years, Keller Williams Real Estate shuts down their offices on one day in May for RED Day. Their 80,000 agents and associates do volunteer community service projects for a designated company in their regional or local area, according to Bob Wells, a co-partner in the Keller Williams’ Keystone Partners Group (serving communities from Westchester, New York to Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania).
Keller Williams RED Day Project Coordinator Theresa Rocco assembled the team that carried out Farm owners’ Donna and Mike Ciancitto’s priorities, which included gardening, weeding, re-mulching, painting, staining picnic tables, refurbishing the play areas, repairing outdoor furniture, raking, and hosing down plastic play items.
Donna said that the timing of the facelift could not have been better. Country Ark’s warm weather season is just starting and this year is the non-profit organization’s 25th anniversary.
The Ciancittos raise a wide array of farm and exotic animals, part of a petting zoo that are a major attraction for groups of developmentally challenged kids and adults. Visiting groups come for therapeutic, recreational, and educational programs year round by appointment.
Country Ark also provides indoor and outdoor arts and crafts stations and resource areas. Once a year, in June, the Farm is open to the public.
Rocco and the Ciancittos thanked Ryan’s Deli (Route 739 in Lords Valley, 570-775-0351), which donated and catered lunch for the Farm and Keller Williams employees.
RED Day started in 2009 when the company leaders explored ways to celebrate the company’s commitment to improving local communities.
That year, the leaders celebrated the company board Vice Chairperson Mo Anderson’s birthday with an outpouring of volunteer projects in every community in or near a Keller Williams office. They chose Anderson for her dedicated commitment to shaping company culture.
The positive feedback from the community and company participants led to institutionalizing the event as an annual company tradition.
The company values its employees so much that they designate an employee coach for each region, according to Keller Williams northeast Pennsylvania Productivity Coach Usha Patel.
Rocco said, “RED Day is [now] an entrenched part of Keller Williams Realty’s culture and displays the extraordinary effect a company can have when individuals come together to work as a team for the greater good of everyone.
Mark Ozman, a Keller Williams employee based in Indianapolis, is quoted on the franchise web site as follows: “RED Day is a one day expression of what happens 24/7 in the Keller Williams culture. It is seeing a need, discovering who can meet that need, and then getting it done.”
